Beginner's Guide to Aerodynamics
Newton's First Law

Subject Area: Physical Science

Grade Level: 8-9

 National Science Standards:

National Technology Standards:

Objective:

After reading the Newton's First Law page from the NASA Web-based textbook, you will demonstrate an understanding of Newton's First Law of Motion by answering questions in which you will apply this law.

Beginner's Guide to Aerodynamics is a "textbook" of information prepared at NASA Glenn Research Center to help you better understand how airplanes work. Click Beginner's Guide Index to access the list of slides available at Beginner's Guide to Aerodynamics. Open the slide called Newton's First Law (with text). Study the labeled diagram and read the explanation of the Newton's First Law of motion. Then using the information, access Newton's First Law Activity to complete the exercise.

Assessment:

You, or your partner(s), will be evaluated on the accuracy or feasibility of your answers.

Evaluation:

You will demonstrate the ability to use information found on the World Wide Web and apply what you have learned about Newton's First Law of Motion to airplanes.
